COMPETITOR INFORMATION

Welcome to the TasGrav Tune-Up! We are beyond stoked to be back in St Helens for year two of the ultimate season opener! Built to help you shake off the winter cobwebs and get back on the dirt with good mates, the Tune-Up is all about maximum track time and low-stress fun. To fire up the season, we’re bringing back an extended version of our signature ‘Re-Run’ race format —giving you 4 stages, 4 hours, and unlimited runs to dial in your lines.

Please find below competitor information for the weekend. Note that during the event weekend itself, our primary form of communication and last minute updates will be via FaceBook. Please keep an eye on our socials for the Saturday night video briefing, and any last minute event updates. See you on the trails!

EVENT FORMAT

The Tune-Up at St Helens is our ‘ReRun’ event format, this means that the course is open for 4hrs and you can complete as many laps of the stages as you like in that timeframe! All relevant stages for your category must be completed, but only your fastest time on each stage will count towards your total race time. Shuttles are not included in your race entry for this event, but are available from the trailhead (see links below). The shuttle road is a public road, and therefore you can self-shuttle this network if you have a suitable vehicle, UHF radio, and are familiar with the road. Please see more detailed info on self-shuttle procedures below.

REGISTRATION & TIMING

Please check the event schedule above for race registration opening times. The registration area and event hub will be located at the St Helens main trailhead on Flagstaff Rd. Keep a look out for the registration tent and check in with the rego team to receive your race plate and timing chip. Please have your AusCycling membership details ready in case it is required, you can have this information pre-loaded on your phone. We will need to see evidence of AusCycling membership for all riders.

All of our ‘Re-Run Races‘ have LIVE timing that is updated online every 60 seconds. Each time you pass through the trailhead please head to the rego tent to dip your timing chip in the beacon so that your stage times can be uploaded to the server. You can choose to do this after each run, or as desired. The live times will be available online via the link below, and it will be displayed as a QR code link at the event.

The timing information is stored on the chip and it is not necessary for you to download your times after every run. It is critical that you return your timing chip prior to 1:30pm to do the final download of times for race presentations.

Please wear your timing chip on your right hand wrist, and secure it tightly with the strap provided. Lost timing chips will incur a $100 fee if not returned on the day. We recommend you do not wear any GPS devices or watches on the same wrist as your timing band. Your timing chip will be activated upon registration and will be checked at the start of Stage 1 for your first run.

Any question in regards to event timing please contact Mark on 0404 028 483.

UPLIFT SHUTTLES

We recommend ‘Bark Off Biking‘ for your uplift shuttle services on the weekend. They will be running Friday to Sunday and have a range of shuttle pass option for purchase. Please see the link below for more information, and contact the team at Bark Off if you have any questions.

SELF-SHUTTLE PROCEDURES

As most of you know, the St Helens shuttle road is a public road and can therefore be self-shuttled if you have a suitable vehicle. Please note that the top section of the road is quite narrow with steep drops to the side, particularly after call point 3. Passing bays are limited and the drop-off area is tight for space, so please limit your time in this area and ensure riders are ready to drop immediately. THERE IS NO PARKING AT THE SHUTTLE DROP AREA and the full turning circle is required for the shuttle bus and trailers to turn around. If you decide to self-shuttle, we recommend that you follow a shuttle bus up the hill, and please follow the procedures below…

– All vehicles MUST use a UHF and abide by signed call points.
– Vehicles heading down MUST GIVE WAY to vehicles heading up, and please use the passing bays to pull over as required (but please do not park and leave your vehicle in these bays).
– The road is loose gravel, and steep in sections, so please drive to the road conditions and allow plenty of room for the commercial shuttles and trailers.
– Please use the designated ‘self-shuttle’ loading area at the trailhead, do not use the ‘shuttle bus’ area for loading of bikes.

All riders will pass through the main trailhead multiple times during the race. The most accessible spectator point will be the ‘Pump Track Special Stage’ at the main trailhead, and all riders will complete this short stage. There are various on-trail spectator points across the course, and the closest ones will be towards the end of ‘Mack 10’ and ‘Icarus’. The bottom of these trails are accessible on foot from the main trailhead heading up towards the Flagstaff fireroad (the really steep hill you can see!). If you are not familiar with the network please check in with the TasGrav team for some guidance on where to head.

PLEASE DO NOT WALK ON THE RACE TRAILS WHILST THE RACE IS IN PROGRESS. Please walk to the side of the trail and be very aware of approaching riders. Small children must be kept close by and off the race trails. We do not recommend any pets or animals for spectators, but if you must bring your pet it MUST REMAIN ON LEAD AND IN CONTROL AT ALL TIMES. RULES AND SAFETY

– ALL RIDERS MUST WEAR A FULL-FACE HELMET on race stages as per AusCycling regulations. Detachable chin guard helmets that meet Australian standard are acceptable, but the chin guard must be fitted for race stages.

– EBIKES MUST MEET AUSTRALIAN STANDARD MAXIMUM ASSIST REGULATIONS
Modified eBikes that exceed the regulations (i.e. assist exceeding 25km p/h) will be disqualified.

All riders must be fully self-sufficient carrying their own food and water. Minimum requirements are 600ml of water, and sufficient nutrition for the duration of the event. You may only use one bike for the event, and it must be in good working conditions, with bar ends and working front and back brakes. Your bike must be suitable for the terrain, and the race director has the discretion to prohibit unsafe bikes from the event.

Riders that are caught by approaching riders must yield. The approaching rider must give polite but firm advance notice of approach. For example, the pursuing riders may politely shout ‘On your left’ allowing the slower rider to move to the right. Please be respectful of each other and take into account the nature of the terrain you are riding at the time of passing.

UNDER 17 RIDERS must comply with some extra safety gear as per below.
– Knee pads must be worn and elbows must be covered (elbow pads and/or long sleeve jersey).
– Eye protection, whilst not required, is strongly encouraged.
– Full finger gloves must be worn.
– A neck brace is recommended, but not compulsory. Neck braces must only be worn with a full face helmet.
– Fully enclosed footwear.
– U17 riders are required to comply with extra safety equipment listed, and it is recommended for all riders regardless of age or experience.

WEATHER & EVACUATION PROCEDURES

Unfortunately, we cannot control the weather. We live on this beautiful island that is prone to extreme weather such as torrential rain, bushfire, floods, wind, etc, etc. These conditions could affect the course we have planned, or in extreme situations cancel the event. We will monitor the weather forecast in the days leading up to the event, and communicate any changes that may be required. Please keep an eye on our social media channels for updates.

If a significant event occurs mid-race, the event may be stopped immediately, and you will be instructed by the race director and marshals to the nearest emergency muster point. We ask that you make yourself familiar with the course map and emergency points.

CONDUCT

Just be a good sport! Enduro racing is fun, and the camaraderie amongst competitors is exceptional. Foul or abusive language will not be tolerated. The race director may impose penalties for riders who do not comply with rules or conduct themselves in a way that is deemed inapropriate.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS – We love riding in our great parks and reserves across Tasmania. We’re lucky to have access to these areas on our bikes, please treat them respectfully and do not litter.

INJURED RIDERS – In the event you come across an injured rider who is not able to continue, please wait with the rider. The second person on scene should continue along the trail to the next marshal. All marshals at the event will have emergency contact details and UHF radio access to contact the race director. Anyone affected by assisting with a medical situation will be given a rerun or a stage time that reflective of the average of their other stages. Safety first.

Riders who carry mobile phones, please save the event director’s phone number to your device. Doug Miller -0408 264 299
